Two women milking cows in the open field formerly known as Wild Grassland where Soldiers Memorial Cemetery is now in Cookstown. Visible in the foreground is the first Episcopalian Church - now Anglican. The field was owned by Isaac Ferguson who donated the field to the church., IHS1755

Miners Family Home

Photograph of the home of Mr. and Mrs. William T. and Dinah Miners from 1908 to 1911, located at 12 Church Street. The lot was originally owned by the Ferguson family from 1869 (when it was valued at $11.39) until 1908 when the Miners purchased it for $300. In 1911 the Miners sold the home to William R. Chantler for $2,000. Pictured standing in front of the home from left to right are Marion Webb, Marion Lacke (both relatives from England), Dinah Miners (née Webb), and William T. Miners. The building itself is red brick with dark decorative shutters around each window and a small roofed porch wrapping around the front left corner of the house. The roof is a combination of Dutch and box gable, and a plank sidewalk is also visible along the front of the yard., IHS2712

Dear Sir and Brother - A meeting of this Lodge will be held in the Masonic Hall, Stroud, as indicated in the margin, at which you are requested to be present. Hour of meetin 8. P.M. By command of the W.M. Wilson Black, Secretary. The card is of an interesting design such that it lists the days of the weeks, moths and, numbers 1 through 31 as well as the type of meeting possible. This allowed the secretary to efficiently punch a hole in the desired date to convey the correct information., IHS 4462

Minneapolis Moline Tractor

Minneapolis Moline farm tractor, purchased new in 1948 in Waterloo by Harold Matchett. The tractor was used for custom threshing, mainly in Innisfil. Mr. Matchett threshed for area farmers for 14 seasons. This particular model of tractor bears the name "MM Waterloo" across the front grille, indicating that it was manufactured in Waterloo, Ontario on behalf of the Minneapolis Moline company. The Waterloo Manufacturing Company served as a Canadian distributor for several American companies throughout the 1920s and 1930s., IHS1223

Miss Bertha Sutherland

Photo of Miss Bertha Sutherland in full nursing uniform with cap, standing outdoors in front of a fence. She graduated in 1920 from Toronto Western Hospital. The uniform is all white, including white shoes.Miss Sutherland began her schooling in 1916 and although she should have graduated in three years, she developed a lung tumour in her third year, which delayed her graduation. During her recovery time she stayed with her aunt Tina Sutherland, who owned the home on 19 Elizabeth Street that was rented out as a hospital. She trained at this hospital with a Dr. Scott and chose to stay in Cookstown instead of going on to become a superintendent of Nurses in Barrie. She died on 20 February 1985 at age 92, and was the daughter of Donald Daniel Sutherland and Kate Coleman. She had two sisters and four brothers, and was a first cousin of Mae and Helen Sutherland.
